During
August 2007,
unusual things were happening at the normally
tranquil Montpellier.
First,
a frenzied spring-clean blitz took place and then technicians and workmen descended on the
farm, building sets, laying cables and erecting equipment. Finally,
television cameras,
lightning rigs and lots of beautiful people arrived.
For a few
weeks,
everything
and everyone had to be quiet, including the farm dogs and the resident Hadidas. The
only sound heard was recurrent shouting’s of Lights! Camera! and Action!.
Wild
rumours were
spreading in the mostly rural Tulbagh about the goings-on at Montpellier,
all the more because roads in the vicinity of Montpellier were closed to the
public. Folk
talked about young girls held
against their wishes in the loft of
Montpellier’s
very old Cape-Dutch homestead….

On Montpellier
spring has arrived!

After
a cold, exceptionally wet winter, the early
morning
mist rises from the damp soil, to be burnt away within
hours by a sun that becomes stronger every day.

|

In our vineyard,
life-sap is slowly being drawn up towards the sun, and the first shy
leaves are appearing, still very protective around the little
grape bunches that is destined to become part of a great Montpellier
wine. This is the time of the year when all the veld-flowers are bursting
into bright colours on a velvety green canvas against
the blue blue mountains ... the only missing ingredient is you!
Now is the time
to visit Montpellier
and Tulbagh!

Montpellier exhibited
at the 2007 Winex at the
International Convention Centre in Cape Town during 5 to 7
September. At the Winex, Montpellier launched 5 new wines:
Chenin Blanc 2007
Pinot Noir 2005
Cabernet Sauvignon 2005
Viognier 2007
Shiraz 2005
Our winemaker Anton Krynauw reports
that the Winex was a big success, and our new releases quickly had the
grapevine going. On the last day of the show we had to make use of four
attendants to keep the glasses filled.
Winex is the premier
public event on South Africa's national wine calendar and draws
thousands of wine enthusiasts every year.
